Bursae are the fluid-filled sac-like structures that are present around the joints. Bursitis is a painful condition that affects small, fluid-filled bags that moisturize the bones, tendons, and muscles near the joints. Bursitis occurs when the pockets become inflamed. The most common areas of bursitis are shoulder, elbow, and hip. It may also have bursitis in the knee, heel, and foot area of the big toe. Bursitis often occurs near joints that perform frequent repetitive movements. During treatment, the affected joint usually needs to rest and be protected from further trauma. In most cases, the pain of bursitis disappears with the right treatment in a few weeks, but recurrent bursitis is common. Most commonly it may occur in the shoulder, elbow, and hip joint but it may also occur in knee and heel joint.
