The two main forms of stomatitis are herpetic stomatitis, also known as cold sores, and canker sores, also known as cancer. Infection with Herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1) causes herpetic stomatitis. It is more common in young children from 6 months to 5 years old. People exposed to HSV-1 may develop oral ulcers later in life because of the virus. HSV-1 is linked to HSV-2, the virus that causes genital herpes, but it's not the same virus. This infection occurs due to the attack of herpes simplex type 1 virus. It mostly affects young children between the ages of 6 months and 5 years. Antiviral drugs are prescribed to cure these blisters. Rehydrating fluids may also recommend if the child is facing dehydration due to difficulty swallowing.
