Pemphigoid is a rare autoimmune disease that can develop at any age, including in children, but mainly affects the elderly. Pemphigoid is caused by a malfunction of the immune system and causes rashes and blisters in the legs, arms, and abdomen. Pemphigoid can also cause blisters on the mucous membranes. The mucous membranes produce mucus that protects the inside of your body. Pemphigoid is found in the mucous membranes of the eyes, nose, mouth, and genitals. During pregnancy in some women, the symptoms appeared.
