Retinoblastoma is a cancer of the eye that starts in the retina, the sensitive lining of your eye. Retinoblastoma most often affects young children but is rare in adults. Your retina is made of nerve tissue that perceives the light that passes in front of your eyes. Images in the retina are formed when retina send signals through the optic nerve to the brain. Retinoblastoma is a rare form of eye cancer and the most common form of cancer that affects the eye in children. Retinoblastoma can occur in one or both eyes. Indeed most of the children survived but they may lose their vision or maybe live with the removed eye. Almost half of the cases are due to a hereditary genetic defect which is caused by it is caused by a mutation in chromosome 13. The major symptom associated with it is amaurotic cat's eye reflex. Other signs may include deterioration of vision, a red and irritated eye, glaucoma and faltering growth or delayed development. It is mostly treated with radiotherapy or special surgical procedures.
