A thumb sprain is an injury which happens when the soft tissues of thumb gets damaged. It is caused by a forceful hit of the thumb against a hard surface or too much bending of thumb in one direction. A sprained thumb can cause severe feeling of pain, discomfort, and stiffness at the base of thumb near the palm. Person may suffer difficulty in grabbing or pinching objects, or thumb movement.
Right after you’ve sprained your thumb, use the PRICE approach (P=pressure, R=rest, I=ice, C=compression, E=elevation).
