person-avatar

Asking for Self, Male, 35 years old, Lahore

I just checked my Uric Acid through blood tests that stands at 12 righ now. What are the risks, medication and precautions. Do you recommend more tests to see the effects ?

Internal Medicine Specialist in Rawalpindi - Dr. Nasir Habib

1) Risks : include Acute Gout , Uric Acid stone formation and kidney damage.

2) Medications : asymptomatic hyperuricemia doesnot require treatment , but to look for cause. So if u are currently taking any medicines , let us know
3) precautions: to use a low purine diet ; ( avoid fish poultry excessice amounts of meat , spinach , peas and beans). Take plenty of water.

4 )Further Tests : Urea & creatinine
And Blood CP and LDH to rule out the excessive cell breakdown increasing the burden on kidneys

Internal Medicine Specialist in Karachi - Dr. M Saeed Shekhani

This UA level is pretty high.Needs treatment and dietary advise.A consultation with a physician is necessary as without seeing the patient recommending drug is not a good idea. More tests may be required.High UA is associated with hypertension, diabetes, and few other comlications.
