Asking for Self, Male, 25 years old, karachi
Asalamualikum, I had a surgery in 22/AUG/2017 from I.H Bhatti in NMC Karachi. But after two year now i m suffering from same pain again, and Dr. recommend me another surgery. Now I am confused i need to consult other Dr.s that is it curable by physio therapy or another surgery is must, because the bone which grows in two years might grows again in 4 year next time. Operation and surgeries are wasting my money and health too. Thanks in advance for your kind concerns Doctors.
Recurrent disc can happen between 5 to 20% of cases. But according to your report this time it is a different disc (l5-s1) from the one operated previously (l4-5). Mri also shows degeneration in both these discs. Will have to examine you to determine if a discectomy will help or you are a candidate for a fusion surgery.
As far as deferring surgery is concerned, you may try physio and steroid injections as long as you have not developed any weakness in your leg.
You may visit me at aga khan hospital for an opinion if you like.
W.a sWhich surgery was performed in 2017?I there any neurological deficit in this patient? You must consult wd pain specialist too and physiotherapy and rehabilitaion specialist at the movement.
the main points in deciding for surgery in your case may be either no pain relief with medicines/physiotherapy, or if you have developed some weakness or numbness or urine control problems. the final advice can be given only after seeing and examining you. You can take appointment via Marham if you like to have my opinion
