Talk to Neuro Physician on Neurology - Stroke Center

person-avatar

Asking for Self, Male, 31 years old, Faisalabad

Is there any stroke center in Pakistan for Emergency treatment? In cities like Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad or Faisalabad etc... If someone gets stroke unfortunately, which center is more suitable (in above cities) for him/her to avoid permanent disability or extent of it? Because such patients required more and immediate, timely attention as compared to others.

i doubt in Pakistan there is any dedicated acute stroke unit in private of GOV sector. Acute embolic stroke needs thrombolysis within hours of onset and there are risks with that as well. Given the attitude of relatives bringing sick patients and failing to accept the limitation of the system will certainly put off any organization to offer this. People need to be well informed and have rationale expectation but at same time lot of responsibility lies on health providers as well.hi

Thanks for reply.
Yes patient families avoid to take their patients to big hospitals, first because some of their relatives had been died there, So whoever goes there comes dead. My aunt had stroke at age of 36, their family didn't took her to Nishter Hospital bcoz some of their relative was died there. They took her to private surgical hospital and General Surgeon treated her, her right remained paralyzed.
But medicines which are gold-standard treatment like tPa should be made available in public/private hospitals.

there are strict criteria for use of thrombolytics and if these protocols are not followed it can be disastrous you need early presentation within few hours i guess within 4 hours, then immediate ct head that should be interpreted immediately .24 hour availability of clinician to make a decision.
this is something need a lot of resource and expertise

first 4 hour are important, In emergencies only PGR are working, if there is Senior Registrar, he/she doesn't see patients. consultant only visit once. Most of the times, CT scan machines are out of order.
