Asking for Father, Male, 67 years old, Karachi
My father was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in feb 2017. Doctors had started chemotherapy from april. Till now 12 cycles were done and cea level decreases from 234 to 14. But itself tumor size and omental caking remain unchanged. Now dr is advising more chemo session. Details of chemo medicine are 9 cycle of avastin and oxaliplatin with xeloda tab and 3 cycles of avstin and xeliri with xeloda tab. I want opinion whether to continue with this or any other advise because it is very costly also. Thanks
Hi
sorry to hear about your dad. Unfortunately he has already received enough
chemo... he shouldnt receive more treatment... he should be assessed by a
surgeon for resection of tumor and if that is not possible the surgeon can
just do a ileocolic bypass... that means he will create an alternate route
for the feces without removing the tumor.. that way your dad can start
eating regularly... thats the best thst can be offered now
But Iwould suggest you show him to Dr Abid Jamal..
Chemo needs to be continued. However you could stop avastin .
Chemo is not going to cure it.It just slows it down and helps his symptoms.

Chemotherapy should be continued. There is no role of any surgery if he hasn’t got obstruction. Avastin is expensive but a patient support program has been launched recently in Pakistan. You can ask your treating physician regarding the details.
