Asking for Other, Male, 04 years old, Karachi
My son is patient of CAH . His 17 hydroxy test is well within limit. He is taking hydrocortisone 5 my daily and florinef 1/2 tablet daily. I want to ask for particular test with which I can conform that my son is actually facing CAH or not. His weight is 16kg.

hello,
first of all your child needs to be in a care of a good Endocrinologist for the assessment and to confirm the diagnosis.
o confirm the diagnosis with blood and urine tests. Blood and urine tests. Tests used to diagnose CAH measure levels of hormones produced by the adrenal glands. A diagnosis can be made when there are abnormal levels of these hormones.
your child may need a long term care with the help of the good doctor who can advice you in person.
thanks

okay that make sense.
you had consulted 5 doctors so far.
i can understand your concern. so you feel they still have not been able to diagnose it well?
if the results are all with in limits and they all agree with the same outcome then i would suggest to wait and observe, give it sometime and meanwhile weigh him and check his height as well.
my question is that if all the markers are with in limits then why your child is been labelled with this illness? also why is he being treated with the medication.
i am sorry its coming across here that he is well and all his markers are well. which means is it because his medications are working?

At the age of 20 days my son has diagnosed 17 hydroxy level at 103 once. (He was suffering from fever and fitts).after this doctor decided that my son is patient of CAH. Doctor started hydrocortisone and florinef for him. With 5 mg hydrocortisone and 1/2 tablet of florinef my son is stable now from last 5 years. Now he is of 5 years old and has 19 kg weight. This dose should be insufficient for him if he is patient of CAH.

Dear concerned parent. please get your child's Karyotyping done, it will show u the chromosome pattern. Get one ultrasound abdomen done to see the inside picture. And repeat 17oh progesterone every 3-6months to compare levels. CAH is not a disease as such but a variety in humans. it is the commonest intersex condition in Pakistan, mostly affecting XX babies.
So the medicine you are giving him is to keep his hormones in a balance. however follow up is a must.

I have consulted 2 doctors Brigadier quadrat and Col Asma in CMH pindi. Dr. Najaf in Banazir hospital pindi. Dr. Jaida manzoor in children hospital Lahore. And at last retired General Salman in rawalpindi . These all doctors says that all tests (17 hydroxy. Bone age x_ray. Serum Renan. ) are well with in limit. But exectly we can not say that the child is patient of CAH or not.
Quantity of medicine currently is 5 mg hydrocortisone daily and half tablet of florinef which is very much insufficent to him as his age and weight.
