Asking for Self, Female, 62 years old, Sargodha
Aoa. My mother was 62 years old. She is diagnosed with the liver chiirosis and tumor of 7cm in size. Doctors suggest liver transplant. What's your advice in this case. For reference liver city scan report is attached. I shall be very thankful to you for your advice.
Thanks alot for asking the question. Considering the history I assume that she may have hepatitis B or C as well. Yes she is a candidate of Liver Transplant but I do not think you will be able to arrange that transplant within next few weeks as it requires some essential steps. So I will advise you to downstage the tumor. For that I will advise TACE to reduce the burden of the tumor. More over there are few sub centimeter lymph nodes are also present. To rule out any metastasis before transplant we usually advise PET SCAN....
TACE (Transarterial chemoemoblization ) is used to downstage the tumor, it involves one session or multiple depending upon the response of the tumor. it is not too much painful and by using monitor drug is delivered in liver to act on cancer cells. Based on my fareast experience (Taiwan and South Korea) patient survives more then ten years and so with regular follow up. ...
This patient need to under go Tace in which we put chemotherapeutic agent in the tumour and block it's blood supply then gas to review after 6 weeks again to offer transplant if possible I will be available after Eid would like to see patient with following lab tests CBC . PT. APTT. INR .AFP . LFT. ALBUMEN LEVEL and CT films

Thanks for giving advice from your precious time.
What is meant byTACE? And if we go with this treatment how long does it take to reduce the size of the tumor? Is there any medication involved in this process? Is it painful for patient? And how long the patient will survive with the liver transplant? I mean to say life span after transplant?
