Genetic disorders are when an illness from one generation passes to the next generation. Sometimes, these disorders skip one generation, but still prevails in the genome (genetic structure of a person). Genetic disorders can also be caused by mutation, which stays in the gene pool. Mutation is a change in the DNA of a person, which can be caused by environmental factors or any other reason. These disorders are very serious and can cause a huge problem in a person’s life. Some people ignore their family’s history of diseases, which can be an underlying factor of the outbreak. It is important to be aware of these diseases so that an individual could live a better life.

1. Down syndrome
Down syndrome occurs due to the change in the count of chromosomes. There is one extra chromosome in the person which causes the abnormality. This syndrome affects the physical traits and compromises the intellectual ability of the person. It is a genetic disorder, that is effected since the childhood. Down syndrome can occur if the woman gives birth to a child in older age, 35 or above and if there is some family member who has down syndrome. The child with down syndrome should have a proper health check up right after birth. There are different therapies that are used to manage down syndrome.
2. Huntington’s disease
Huntington’s disease is a genetic disease which can affect a person at any time in life. The signs can be seen in the midlife, but in some possibilities they can also be detected from 10 years onward. There are three stages of the illness, which a person needs to keep in mind. In the first stage of the disease, the person lacks balance and coordination in everyday activities, fidgeting, and depression. In the second stage, problems in motor functions become visible, like dropping things, unable to swallow, and increased stress. In the third stage the situation gets worse, the clumsiness increases, fidgeting increases, and the person becomes dependent on another individual. Also, different emotions have extreme affects on the behavior of the person.
3. Sickle cell anemia
The red blood cells are formed by combining two sickle cells, but in sickle cell anemia, there is only one sickle cell. It is a deformity, in which it gets hard for the blood to flow in the veins. Due to the sickle cell anemia, the blood flow is hindered, and it can cause adverse effects to health. Sickle cell anemia can cause problems related to spleen, skin, liver, and other vital parts of the body.
Autism is an illness a person has since childhood, the problem is related to communicating, language, interacting and mental stability. It happens in the early stages, it is important to keep a look out for the following things;
- The child takes a lot of time in learning how to talk
- Repetition in behavior
- Repetition in response
- Uneasy with change
5. Cystic fibrosis
Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disorder, it affects the cells of the body, that produce sweat, mucus, and stomach fluid. Cystic fibrosis makes the cells glue-like from thin and smooth texture. Due to the change in texture the airways and other ducts get blocked, and this blockage can cause a lot of trouble to the human body.
