5 Effective Home Remedies For Dry Skin

Among other skin problems, dry skin is another common and an uncomfortable condition. It isn’t usually serious but if left untreated, it can crack and become infected. There are different causes of dry skin but in most cases, it is caused by environmental factors that remove moisture from the skin. However, this can also happen as a result of frequent bathing, use of harsh soaps, aging or certain medical conditions.

1.Coconut oil:

You can use coconut oil daily on affected parts of the body. Coconut oil has emollient properties which mean it has the quality of softening and soothing the skin. Emollients fill the spaces between skin cells and cracks, creating a smooth surface. There are also saturated fats naturally occur in coconut oil which can hydrate and smooth your dry skin.

2.Limit Water Exposure:

If you are habitual of taking long and especially hot baths, then you’re more likely to develop dry skin. Try not to bathe once a day and also keep your bath and shower time to 10 minutes or less. Take shower with warm water and avoid taking hot baths.

3.Petroleum Jelly:

In Pakistan, it is one of the most common remedies for dry skin. And it should be because it is very effective and affordable. According to a study, petroleum jelly and its products can heal skin in older adults. Petroleum jelly is a mixture of mineral oil and waxes which covers the skin in a protective layer. Make sure you use it as a moisturizer after taking bath.

4.Use a Humidifier:

Use a humidifier in your home; it can help minimize the dryness caused by the heating system. Set it at around 60%, a level that should be enough to refill the top layer of the skin.

Milk could also help you to get rid of dry skin, but not when applied to the skin. In fact, you should drink it to improve your skin condition. According to research, milk should be included in your diet in order to improve and cure dry skin. So, what are you waiting for? Grab a glass of milk to drink.

If you want to prevent dry skin then avoid things that can trigger dryness and irritation. Most importantly, never scratch your skin and avoid rubbing skin too hard when towel drying. Also, choose the right kind of moisturizer for your skin.
