Cucumber water is the perfect way to rejuvenate, refresh, and stay hydrated. This stimulating and healthy vegetable drink is an amazing substitute for carbonated beverages and other sweet drinks.

According to reported research, “The presence of nutrients and antioxidants in cucumber water can help with weight loss, lower blood pressure and possibly reduce the chances of cancer when added to a healthy dietary plan”

Some people believe that cucumbers lack nutrients because they are pale in color and have high water content. But the truth is, its liquid content is one of its many advantages.

Cucumber water is a great choice to satisfy your thirst any time of the day!

    What is Cucumber Water?

Cucumber water is an infused drinkable beverage that contributes to a healthy lifestyle. It is filtered or purified water brewed with cucumber slices. The water takes the flavor and essence of the cucumber slices.

The longer these slices stay in the water, the better the flavor. According to a study, “The mixture of cucumber slices with water gives many micronutrients, flavonoids, and antioxidants.”

Fact: Cucumber water is one of the best beverages to boost the hydration

Cucumber Water Benefits on your Health:

A simple step like adding cucumbers to your water can help you reap these 5 benefits:

1- Cucumber Water Promotes Bone Health:

The most significant nutrient in cucumber is vitamin K, which is key to bone health. A glass of cucumber water with the peel still on provides more than 20% of the recommended daily target of vitamin K. This nutrient is essential for bone formation, and several studies have shown that low levels of Vitamin K result in osteoporosis and an increased risk of fractures.

2- Reduces the Chances of Cancer:

Cucumbers are rich in flavonoids that may help reduce the risk of cancer. According to a 2017 study, “cucumber water also contains biochemical compounds such as cucurbitacins and lignans, which can inhibit the development of some cancers or slow their progression.”

A recent study suggests that fisetin, a flavonoid found in cucumbers, may slow the progression of cancers and even induce apoptosis (programmed cell death of cancer cells).

Fisetin also possesses some properties that may have the potential to treat cancer, but more studies are needed to confirm this.

Did You Know: Cucumber has 12-methyltetradecanoic acid, which stops the growth of prostate cancer in males.

    3- Boosts Cardiovascular Health:

Cucumber water contains dozens of antioxidants, including flavonoids that are known to defend against heart disease. The seeds may also be beneficial: In a study published last year, a small group of people with mildly high blood fats consumed dried cucumber seed extracts and cucumber water daily. After six weeks, they faced several positive changes, including decreased total cholesterol, decreased “bad” LDL cholesterol, increased “good” HDL, and decreased the number of triglycerides.

    4- Improves your Skin Health:

Cucumber water has the potential to keep the skin clean and firm.

A glass of cucumber water has a soothing effect on the skin and reduces skin irritation and swelling. For this reason, cucumbers have long been applied topically as a home remedy for acne and sunburn.

According to a study, staying hydrated helps your body flush toxins out and maintain a healthy complexion. Cucumbers are also rich in pantothenic acid, or vitamin B-5 used to treat acne.

    5- Helps in Weight Loss:

Drinking cucumber water is one of the easiest things to do if you are trying to lose weight. This refreshing drink is low in calories and helps you lose weight quickly.

Fact: One average cucumber contains twenty calories, which is very good for weight loss.

Simple Steps to Make Cucumber Water to Avail its Benefits:

    • Slice the cucumber thinly. When the cucumber has been chopped finely, put it in the pitcher.
    • Gently fill cucumbers and pitchers with water to the edges with filtered water. Stir the cucumbers. Let it cool for at least 20 minutes before enjoying it.
    • Serve with sparkling water, lemon, raspberry, blueberry, or rosemary!

Attention: Side Effects of Drinking Cucumber Water:

In some cases, using cucumber water does not prove to be beneficial and may cause the following issues in the body.

    1. Digestive problems: Some people find cucumber varieties that are difficult to digest.
    2. Blood clotting: Cucumbers are relatively high in vitamin K.
    3. Allergy: Some people have reported allergic reactions to cucumbers.
    4. Toxicity: Some cucurbitacins are toxic for humans to consume.

If you experience any of these symptoms, consult your doctor immediately.

    Concluding Thoughts:

You can drink cucumber water instead of plain water to help you feel revitalized and hydrated. Depending on a person’s age, sex, and climatic conditions, a person can consume about 2-3 liters of cucumber water a day. If you live in a temperate climate you may need to increase your water intake.

     FAQS:

Can I drink cucumber water while being pregnant?

Cucumber is rich in water and helps to prevent dehydration, especially if you are pregnant. The peel of the cucumber is rich in fiber. It reduces the chances of constipation which is a common issue in pregnancy.

Is cucumber water good for teeth?

The cucumber is a light and refreshing vegetable that is versatile and delicious. Because it is rich in water, it promotes saliva production in the body, which helps keep your teeth naturally clean and bacteria-free.
