We’re Ending 2020 With A COVID19 Vaccine

Reading Time: 2 minutes

December 3 2020: United Kingdom, has become the first country in the world to approve the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID19 vaccine! We’re ending this year with great news.

This COVID19 vaccine has a priority list and will be given first to the elderly people in care homes and also, their staff. Followed by over-80s and healthcare staff. This vaccine needs to be stored at a temperature of approximately -70C and as the hospitals already have the facilities, the very first vaccinations are likely to take place there. It is said that this vaccine must be kept in batches of 1,000.

Considering the situation, the Prime Minister of UK Boris Johnson requested the public not to get “carried away with happiness and over-optimism and still be careful”.

This Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine is one of the fastest vaccines that has been worked on in history. It has turned the concept of ten years into reality in not even 10 months. The UK has already ordered 40 million doses that are enough to vaccinate 20 million people.

“It’s the protection of vaccines that will ultimately allow us to reclaim our lives and get the economy moving again.” Says the British Prime Minister

The doses of this COVID19 vaccine will be given as two injections which will be 21 days apart. Followed by the second dose being a booster. Immunity begins to show results right after the first dose but reaches its full effect in approximately seven days after the second dose. Side effects that are experienced are very mild, also similar to the side effects that are experienced after any other vaccine.

“The symptoms won’t last for even two days and the vaccine was 95% effective for all groups in the trials, including elderly people”. said Prof Sir Munir Pirmohamed, the chairman of the Commission on Human Medicine expert working group.

The pace undoubtedly has been breathtaking. From an unknown virus at the start of the year to a vaccine approved by the regulator and ready to use in early December is an unprecedented timescale. We hope to step in 2021 with great positivity and happiness!

Till then, Stay Safe.
