Your doctor might give you Tapento IR Tablet for:
- Moderate to severe acute pain in adults
- Pain that cannot be controlled by non-opioid painkillers
Tapento IR Tablet Dosage and Administration
Always follow your doctor's instructions exactly.
Adult Dosage:
- Starting dose: 50mg every 4 to 6 hours; your doctor may start higher depending on the pain
- On the first day, a second dose may be taken 1 hour after the first if the pain is not controlled
- Do not take more than 700mg on the first day or 600mg a day after that
- Moderate liver disease: start at 50mg no more often than every 8 hours, and no more than 150mg a day at the start
- Not recommended in severe liver or kidney disease
- Older adults: your doctor will choose the dose with care
Children Dosage:
- Not recommended for children and teenagers under 18 years
How to Take:
- Swallow the tablet with enough water.
- Take it with or without food.
- Take it exactly as prescribed and never take extra doses.
- If you miss a dose, carry on as before; do not take a double dose.
- Do not stop it suddenly; your doctor will lower the dose slowly to avoid withdrawal symptoms.

- Smoke, or have had depression, anxiety, or other mental health problems
- Take antidepressants, benzodiazepines, sleeping pills, gabapentin, or pregabalin
- Take buprenorphine, pentazocine, nalbuphine, or other opioids
- Are pregnant or planning a pregnancy
Also, remember:
- It can cause dependence and addiction, and the risk rises with higher doses and longer use
- Taking it with alcohol, benzodiazepines, or sleeping pills can cause severe breathing problems, coma, or death
- Taking it with some antidepressants can cause serotonin syndrome with agitation, sweating, shaking, muscle twitching, and fever above 38°C
- It can raise the risk of fits
- Do not drive or use machines until you know how it affects you
- Avoid alcohol while taking it
- Get emergency help if someone has pinpoint pupils, very slow breathing, collapse, or fits after taking it
