Asking For Self, Male 26, Islamabad
Greetings, For the past week I am suffering from severe cough, most of the time the cough is dry but if I cough very hard then thick yellow mucus comes out. Can I use nebulizer to help loosen up the mucus, if yes what medication should be used in nebulizer. Response is appreciated.
Yes you can nubulize with normal saline only and try to do chest physio and a good cough syrup
Since it's pollen season the cough may be secondary to asthma. That needs to be checked. Steam inhalation with a few drops of clove oil helps.
Thank you for sharing your concern.
Based on the symptoms you mentioned, proper diagnosis requires a detailed case history and evaluation. For appropriate treatment, you can book an appointment with me for consultation.
Hi there. It seems like you are having a viral infection. Which should be resolved itself within 10 days. But if you are wheezing (whistle like noise when breathing) or chest pain or the mucus becomes darker or green. Then you will need antibiotics accordingly. Right now you can have the nebulizer with simple 2cc saline solution. Body is fighting good on its own. You can have a cough syrup with honey. & an anti allergy tablet. I would recommend Tab. Fexofenadine 120mg x twice a day for 5 days. Hope it will not escalate more than this. Thanks
