Asking For Other, Female 11, Gojra
My 11-year-old niece has been experiencing persistent excessive spitting for the past one year. She spits very frequently throughout the day. When advised to stop, she says she is unable to control it. We have consulted multiple neurologists and a psychologist, but unfortunately, there has been no significant improvement. Due to this habit, her overall health seems to be affected, and her academic performance has declined. She has also become increasingly irritable. We would like to understand: What could be the possible underlying cause of this condition? What further evaluations or treatment options should be considered?
There could be many reasons. 1. A motor tic- commonly seen in ADHD and anxiety 2.Sensory seeking or avoidance behavior in Autism 3.hypersalivation due to medical reasons or anatomical issues 4. Anxiety disorder 5. Side effect of certain medications 6. Other medical issues such as thyroid, brain, or hormones Child should have a comprehensive medical evaluation first. If nothing comes out, she should see a child Psychiatrist plz. Some times seeing a speech pathologist also helps. Thanks Dr Islam
