Acycotic heart defects are heart problems that develop before or at birth but do not usually interfere with the amount of oxygen or blood entering the body tissues. Acianotic heart defects include ventricular septal defect (VSD), atrial septal defect (ASD), patent ductus arteriosus, pulmonary valve stenosis, aortic valve stenosis, and coarctation of the aorta. Acycotic heart defects do not usually cause cyanosis or bluish shade of the skin, lips, and nails due to decreased oxygen flow. When cyanosis develops in a person with acyanotic heart disease, this usually indicates that the heart is not pumping enough blood and may require more oxygen.
