Appendicitis is a finger-like pouch emerging from the large intestine on the lower right side of the abdomen. The appendix seems to have no specific purpose. Inflammation of the cecum causes pain in the right abdomen. For most people, however, the pain starts around the navel and then moves. With increasing inflammation, the pain of appendicitis increases and eventually becomes strong.
Although everyone can get appendicitis, it is most common in people between 10 and 30 years old. The standard treatment involves the surgical removal of the appendix. It is the disorder related to the appendix in which the appendix gets inflammation and pain. It may occur at any stage of life and every gender can be affected by it.
Causes:
The major cause of inflammation in the appendix is the blockage of this blind-ended tube. This blockage may occur by
- Filling of the tube by stool or any material
- Cancer cell formation inside the tube
Symptoms:
Major symptoms associated with this disease are following
- Dull pain moving from the upper portion of the abdomen towards the lower portion of the abdomen
- Loss of appetite
- Nausea or vomiting
- Abdominal swelling
- Fever
- Inability to pass gas
Treatment:
If it is diagnosed at the early stage of the disease onset it can be cured with the help of antibiotics. But the untreated inflamed appendix is at the risk of bursting. So the safe and permanent treatment method of this abnormal condition is surgical removal which is termed as appendectomy.
