Summary about Cyanotic/Acyanotic Heart Diseases in English

Cyanotic heart disease is a term used to describe a group of many different heart defects that occur at birth (congenital). They cause a drop in blood oxygen levels. Cyanosis is characterized by a bluish coloration of the skin and mucous membranes. Ventricular septal defect (VSD), atrial septal defect (ASD), patent ductus arteriosus (PDA), pulmonary valve stenosis, aortic valve stenosis, and coarctation of the aorta are all examples of cyanotic heart defects.

Treatment

Treatment may include:

  • Catheter procedure to insert a plug into the defect
  • Medications to improve heart function or control blood pressure
  • Surgery to repair the defect

Symptoms of Cyanotic/Acyanotic Heart Diseases

Cyanosis is distinguished by the presence of bluish discoloration of the skin and mucous membranes. Cyanosis is typically a symptom of an underlying condition rather than a disease in and of itself. The condition's most common symptom is bluish discoloration of the lips, fingers, and toes. Other signs of Cyanotic/Acyanotic Heart Disease include:

  • Bluish (cyanosis) or greyish skin.
  • Difficulty breathing.
  • Chest pain or other discomforts.
  • Unusual heart rhythms (arrhythmias)
  • Skin, lips, and fingernails with a bluish tint (cyanosis)
  • Shortness of breath.
  • Exertion causes fatigue.
  • Tiring quickly upon exertion.
  • Swelling of body tissue or organs (edema)
  • Dizziness, fainting, or heart palpitations.
  • Feeding problems or reduced appetite.
  • Fever, nausea, or vomiting.
  • Puffy eyes or face.
  • Tiredness all the time.

Causes of Cyanotic/Acyanotic Heart Diseases

The causes for Cyanotic/Acyanotic Heart Diseases are;

  • Abnormal chromosomes.
  • Genetics.
  • During pregnancy, illnesses in the mother include diabetes, phenylketonuria (a blood disorder), drug use, or viral infection.
  • Birth defects in the heart can alter the flow of blood through the heart and lungs. These defects may result in less blood flowing to the lungs. They can also cause blue and red blood to mix. As a result, low-oxygenated blood is pumped into the body. As a result, the oxygen content of the blood pumped into the body is reduced. When the body receives less oxygen, the skin may appear blue.

Preventive Measures of Cyanotic/Acyanotic Heart Diseases

  • Avoid consuming alcoholic beverages or taking medications.
  • Take 400 micrograms of folic acid per day during the first trimester (first 12 weeks) of your pregnancy – this reduces your chances of having a child with congenital heart disease, as well as several other types of congenital disabilities.
