Varicocele meaning in Urdu is "خصیہ کی رگوں میں سوجن". It is a condition in which the veins inside the scrotum, the sac that holds the testicles, become enlarged. These veins normally carry oxygen-poor blood away from the testicles. In a varicocele, the valves inside the veins do not work well, so blood pools and the veins swell.
Varicocele affects about 1 in 5 men. It usually develops during puberty and grows over time. Most varicoceles are on the left side of the scrotum, however they can be on the right or on both sides. Many men have no symptoms and do not need treatment. However, varicocele is a common cause of male infertility, low sperm count, and low testosterone. Surgery and other treatments are available when needed.

Doctors classify varicocele by size and by which side it affects:
This is the smallest size. The varicocele cannot be seen or felt by simple touch. It is only detected when the man bears down (Valsalva maneuver) during examination.
In this type, the varicocele can be felt during a normal examination, even without bearing down. However, it is still not visible from outside.
This is the largest size. The varicocele can be seen through the skin of the scrotum and feels like a bag of worms. It is the most likely to cause pain or fertility problems.
This type cannot be felt during examination, however it is seen on an ultrasound. It is usually found during fertility evaluation.
This is the most common form, found in about 90 percent of cases. It develops because of the way the left testicular vein drains into the kidney vein.
In this form, both sides are affected. It is less common than left-sided varicocele, however it is linked with higher infertility rates.
Doctors diagnose varicocele using:
Varicocele does not always need treatment. The decision depends on pain, fertility goals, testicle size, and hormone levels.
(Medicines do not cure varicocele. They only help with symptoms.)
If a varicocele is not managed, it can lead to:

No. About 40 percent of men with infertility are found to have a varicocele, however many men with varicocele have no fertility problems at all. It is important to do a semen analysis if pregnancy is a concern.
The left testicular vein drains into the left kidney vein at a right angle, which causes higher pressure on that side. The right testicular vein drains directly into the larger vena cava, which lowers the chance of valve failure.
Mild varicoceles without symptoms or fertility issues do not need treatment. Pain can be controlled with supportive underwear and pain relievers. However, varicoceles that affect fertility, cause testicle shrinkage, or persistent pain usually need surgery or embolization.
Yes. Modern microsurgical varicocelectomy is a safe procedure with a high success rate and a low risk of complications. Most patients recover within a few days and return to normal activity in 1 to 2 weeks.
