Talk to Cardiologist on BP Medicine
Asking for Mother, Female, 70 years old, Rawalpindi
My mother is a chornic depression/anxiety patient for the past 30 years. She has been taking Prothiaden 75mg once daily for this. A month ago i checked her BP at home and it was 170/100. I took her to the hospital and after emergency treatment, they prescribed her to use Losartan 50 mg once daily. After one week, she told about heaviness in head we again took her to hospital qnd BP was 200/110 and they changed the GP changed the medicine to Losartan HCT 50/12.5. She has been using it forbl two weeks now and so far feeling comfortable with it. Meanwhile her psychiatrist has added SERT 50 mg to the prescription. I want to ask is the Losartan HCT 50/12.5 is a safe medicine to use at her age. Thank you. P.S. Her blood sugar levels are in normal range.

They are generally safe but combination of HCT and sertaline can lower sodium levels. Pl check electrolytes and look for symptoms of Persistent dizziness
Severe fatigue or weakness. If they are present we need to change to losartan alone or with some other combination. Monitor BP once a day and get serum electrolytes checked.
