Thank you for the message. Since I am a psychotherapist, so I will just provide psychotherapy(CBT), a psychiatrist will prescribe medicine. You will consult psychiatrist by yourself or I will refer by myself after your complete psychological evaluation.

Clinical Psychologist in Chakwal - Ms. Arooj Arshad

Initially you have to consult a psychiatrist for medication after a few weeks you will consult a psychologist for DBT. If your condition is so severe that you need medicine then you will have to wait for almost two weeks so that psychiatric medication will show their results.

**Suggestions**

1. you are advised to participate in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to improve emotional regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and mindfulness skills.
2. Regular psychological counseling sessions are recommended to address maladaptive personality traits, enhance self-awareness, and promote healthier coping mechanisms.

3. The client should be encouraged to develop a structured daily routine and engage in meaningful social and occupational activities to improve overall functioning.

4. Family psychoeducation may be beneficial to foster a supportive environment and improve understanding of the client’s emotional and behavioral difficulties.

5. A psychiatric consultation is recommended to assess the need for pharmacological intervention for the management of associated symptoms such as mood instability, anxiety, depression, or sleep disturbances.

Dear Client, for you need both. DBT is generally more effective than medication.
DBT treats the core problems and Medication may help with symptoms like depression, anxiety, or sleep problems, but it does not treat BPD itself.

It depends on your case, symptoms and their severity. Medication can help with chemically regulating your emotions, along with stabilizing your mood. However, Medication also has side effects such as lethargy, brain fog, weight gain (which can become difficult to lose). On the other hand, DBT gives long-term results, but DBT's progress can be slow. DBT exercises can also make one face their negative emotions upfront, which can be painful emotionally for some clients. Your first approach should be to find a therapist with which you feel a good therapeutic relationship. You might have to go to a few therapists/psychologists to see which one you feel most comfortable with, as DBT requires a good and stable therapeutic relationship. Along with this, you can consult a good Psychiatrist, and discuss which Medications can suit you, and what side effects (both short-term and long-term) to watch out for. BPD usually requires Mood Stabilizers paired with SSRIs, and the medical treatment can take about 8 months to a year, to show stable and persisting results.
