My friend is 3rd month pregnant and she has too much toothache, Dentist prescribed velicef 400mg 2 time in a day,,for 3 days.Is it safe she told dentist about her pregnancy but dentist said it is safe to use in 1st trimester.

Ask with her Gynea doctor about medicine should take or not depending upon her condition which is very important
we always prescrbe penicillin which is augmnetin or amoxil in any trimester of pregnancy i dont know about velocef i never prescribed
it can be used but its better to go for penicillin like amoxicillin or ampicillin but most importantly these medicine are adjunctive to the treatment. she need a proper dental treatment then medicine seem to work otherwise they can turn into serious face infection if we delay the treatment
There is no adverse effects reported with velosef but its best to stay away from broad spectrum antibiotics and keep to the basic penicillin based ones. In any ways, 1st trimester is the most dangerous for any kind of medication as the organogenesis is being carried out. Best is to open the tooth in emergency and provide conventional pulpotomy which is going to reduce the bacterial load as well as the pain. Recall patient in 2nd trimester to complete RCT or if the patient is symptom free, RCT may be delayed till post-delivery.
better to avoid antibiotics in first 3 months
use least toxic antibiotic that is cap amoxil 500 mg three times a day safe for embryo or baby
Only use cap Amoxil 500mg and tab panadol 2 times a day

Use penecillin group of medicine only ! amoxil 500 mg is better then Velocef ….but it is more better to take her to dentist for pulpotomy , and make her infection free so far then do RCT when she free from pregnancy
