Extrinsic Stains from environment including diet, can be removed;
- Mechanical - Manual Scaling by currettes or
Ultrasonic Scaler and then polishing, this will enhance natural teeth cosmetic effects like contrast etc.
- Chemical - Chemical Bleaching
- in office bleaching technique, diverse both primitive and advance procedures
- home bleaching kit - chemical Bleaching Kit for at home bleaching
removes only extrinsic stains contracted from environment including diet stains
some people have dentine(underlying tissue supporting visible tooth surface which is enamel) which is yellower than yellow and an enamel which is more translucent, therefore more yellow colour of dentine reflects through translucent enamel and give the teeth a yellow contrast and vice versa...
if you use chemical beaching once will become more prone to develop extrinsic stains from outside environment(diet etc.) as chemical bleaching requires chemicql reaction which bleaches stains by the processof erosion, a procedure that involves chemical dissolution of tooth surface, and when the chemical reaction is complete in the required time span(specified product maker in documentation), the bleaching gel is washed with water which washes away not only surface tooth enamel on which stains were deposited but in doing so it also removes the stains
Solving Myths;
- visible tooth surface is called enamel which is only 1.5mm thick, is formed only once in life , lasts as long as you keep your permanent teeth safe and sound and there is no material substitute for Natural Enamel in terms of Properties, therefore it is advised to use toothpastes that have fluoride as fluoride makes fluoroapatite crystals with tooth's hydroxyapatite crystals and is more resitant against dissolution
- Toothpastes based on soda - involves chemical erosion reaction
- tooth pastes which look visibly like crystal clear or look translucent by vision - contain chemicals to give toothpaste crystal or translucent appearance and are based upon the process of abrasion - a mechanical process of abrading tooth structure by rubbing to surfaces (1, toothpaste crystal structure and 2, tooth surface structure , in tur surface tooth structure is abraded with stains
- Intrinsic Stains such as tetracycline stains - root canal and pulp chamber are treated with chemical like phosphoric acid , dressing applied and chamber closed, requires change of bleaching agent intermittently and lasts as long as 6 months for tetracycline stains but stains may reappear and the same procedure is repeated again
- Veeners - requires mechanical removal of tooth structure, cement luting veener can be dislodged on biting with teeth which are veenered, cannot chew on hard or sticky food stuff may dislodge or break especially porcelain fabricated veeners as porcelain can also abrade natural tooth structure; it is tough but brittle according to pocelain properties index
Veeners can be used as enhanced cosmetic appearance for facial surfaces of teeth as long as one's smile show buccal(facial) surfaces of teeth that are visible as long as the smile goes
cost according to material used for making crowns or veeners; zirconium is a stone and zirconia is more expensive than porcelain and are more durable than poreclain
