Talk to Infectious Diseases on Rabies Vaccine Schedule In Jinnah Hospital Karachi

person-avatar

Asking For Self, Female 21, Karachi

i completed vaccine 2023 then I took two rabies booster doses on 26th and 29th August . Then on 22nd January 2026 I was bitten again, so the doctor also gave me HRIG or ERIG and called me for vaccines on day 0, day 3, and day 7. What is the reason for this, and will it cause any harm? Will ERIG or HRIG reduce the power of the vaccines, and 0,3,7 schedule is enough ? Jinnah Hospital karachi

No need for ERIG or HRIG again if you have completed full course before. Upon another bite you just have take two doses of rabies vaccine. Day 0 and Day 3.

Most of the ERIG and HRIG are infused into the bite wound AND the remaining injected intramuscularly away from the vaccine site. So it does not interfere with vaccine effectiveness.
