Talk to Internal Medicine on Herpes Zoster
Asking for Father, Male, 83 years old, Karachi

My father is diagnosed with Herpes Zoster and got into complications like Post Herpetic neuralgia and Facial palsy as well. The GP took 6 days to diagnose which means the critical time of 72 hours was passed to get antiviral. Later he gave Aciclovir (Acylex) 200 mg once a day for 14 days which was far below than recommended average. Then another senior doctor has prescribed 800 mg 5 times a day for 10 days along with Pregabalin and Tegral. Now 10 days are done but pain is too severe to tolerate.
Any suggestions please? He is heart patient as well with open heart surgery done 15 year ago and all vitals were fine however BP is going up since he has Herpes Zoster. Besides this chronic kidney disease is there but never done dialysis.

go to the same specialist who prescribed pregabalin and he will review medication.. either dosage or give alternate medicine

Thanks Dr Sadia. Visited again and Dr has stopped all medicines except pregabalin. They are saying to wait as pain will take time to subside.
For pain Distalgesic is given which is an opioid and being heart patient we are worried about the side effects. Any suggestion as Tramadol (Distalgasic) needs to be taken twice a day.

It will just cause more sleepiness . Will not have bad effect for the heart .
Kidney issues need to be reviewed . But I'm sure the medical specialist whom you consulted must have done that.
