Asking For Self, Female 23, Rawalpindi
Assalamualaikum, I had a keloid on my ear due to ear piercing, i got it surgically removed, followed by radiotherapy back in 2019. It stayed fine for 3 4 years but grew back again at the stitches' scar area and is still growing. I can not get the surgery done again since the doctor told me that repeated radiations can be a risk to thyroid. What possibly should be done to help it?
You can opt for surgical excision and steroid injection now.
or only steroid injections.
Kindly visit clinic if possible for detailed discussion!
Intralesional therapy would be helpful, better to visit for consultation and treatment planning.
walaikum assalam. intralesional therapy would be helpful.
walaikum ussalaam
excision with steroids would be helpful and had good results or u can opt for steroids only if u don't want surgery
Will steroids only be effective?

Triple regime is ideal for keloids. Risk can be calculated and area shielded.. we can still opt for surgery+ steroids + pressure therapy
I've had the surgery and radiations but still the stitch scar turned out to be like this. The radiologist told radiations cant be repeated so can it only be treated or reduced through steroids?

Unfortunately it will shrink for sometime and grow again when steroids quit

But it grew back after the surgery, too? What is the best thing to do right now?

Your concern for recurrence after surgery is well based but with a keloid this big surgical removal is best option. After the surgery keep a close follow up with the surgeon along with silicone gel application and massage, with even slight recurrence Intralesional steroid injection should be given with or without compression ear wears. So the goal is to get rid of the existing keloid with surgery and continued care to avoid recurrence and no radiation
surgical excision and steroids will help I think...if u don't want to go for surgery then intralesional steroids is the only option
Thanks. It appears quite large and appears solid to be treated by intralesional steroids alone. Be mindful repeated injections may cause skin breakdown and ulceration. This would heal with rather more severe keloid. The best solution is excisional surgery with steroids injections as and when required. Further radiation must be avoided.

I've had the surgery, and the stitch scar turned into this. Now i can't go for radiations, so can it be reduced through steroids' intralesional injections?
