Talk to Plastic Surgeon on Plastic Surgery Consultation – Post-Burn Scar On Hand (2 Years 6 Months Old Child)

person-avatar

Asking for Self, Male, 3 years old, Quetta

Dear Doctor, Assalam-o-Alaikum.

I hope you are doing well.

My son, Faizan Akbar (2 years 6 months old), sustained a burn injury to his hand about 6 months ago.

Alhamdulillah, the wound has completely healed. His hand, wrist, and all fingers are fully functional, and he has no pain or discomfort.

However, there is a raised, firm area of scar tissue on one finger at the site of the burn. I have attached the latest photographs for your review.

Kindly advise us on the following: Does this appear to be a hypertrophic scar, keloid, or a normal post-burn scar?

Is silicone gel/silicone sheets, scar massage, and hand exercises sufficient at this stage?

Would you recommend pressure garments, splinting, or physiotherapy? Is there any indication for steroid injections, laser treatment, or plastic surgery in the future?

Based on the attached pictures, what would be the best management plan to prevent long-term stiffness or deformity?

Your expert opinion and guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much.

You are well conversant with the treatment protocol and doing well Continue silicone gel massage and pressure garment. Surgery is not advisable at this stage. You can consult me in my clinic for any further help.
