person-avatar

Asking For Other, Male 12, Rawalpindi

Assalamualaikum

Since season started changing and pollen increased my son now 12 years old had cough like continuous cough..

We have been giving him brittanyl one tea spoon twice.

Myteka 5 mg at bed time and qahwa tea etc.

But almost daily at evening or late night his cough become acute worsens and we nebulize him with one cc clenil compositum and two cc saline water.

Mostly he gets better cough somewhat stops and sleeps.

On Sunday we went to saddar for shopping at iftaar time. After iftaar his eyes became red face looked swollen and cough was too much.

We rushed to hearts international emergency.

They nebulized him and patted his back of chest.

Then gave one steroid injection single stat dose.

He became better.

But same routine even today.

He can't sleep properly and getting weaker.

Brittanyl and myteka 5 mg totally failed.

Clenil nebulization somewhat effective.

Do we need to get him checked by any pediatric pulmonologist or any change of medicines needed please.

It appears he needs a regular inhaler for use during this season. Also does he have a runny nose? Inhaler technique is important because faulty technique means waste of money and medication. In his case I'd suggest Foster 100 inhaler 2 puffs twice a day with a spacer. Rinse mouth after taking inhaler. It's also important to have an idea of his lung function to tailor the treatment accordingly. A clinical exam by a pulmonologist is advisable.

Wasalaaam. Sorry to hear about your kid. It seems like he has an allergy or asthma. As you didnt tell me if he was diagnosed with asthma or not. But with medication I am assuming that he has been treated for asthma. Was there any chest x ray done? So 1st the dosage of Britanyl syrup is less for his age. For a 12 year old kid it should be 2 tablespoon x twice a day. So that’s why it was not working for him. Myteka is fine. Nebulising is fine. Just increase the Britanyl dose. Try using the humidifier in the night or whenever he is having this attack. But yes please go for proper asthma evaluation so you would know that what specific thing he is allergic of. Thanks
