Asking for Father, Male, 58 years old, Lahore

My father has been diagnosed with prostate cancer as a result of biopsy test. We came to know of this when we consulted a urologist regarding a prostatic tumor which he considered benign and started procedure of removing it through laser. Now, since it has been confirmed to be malignant, please advice further course of action and if it's curable at this stage. Also please recommend the best economical treatment options in Lahore. Thanks

It is a high grade carcinoma prostate with favourable histological features, and the patient is young.. If he's is fit enough then you should do his staging investigations and consider him for Radical Prostatectomy.

You should consult medical oncologist as early as possible. What is the PSA level.?

Dear asking for father

This test indeed confirms that your father has prostate cancer. Although it's a type of cancer which can cause disastrous consequences if untreated but if it is treated appropriately (either hormonal treatment/curative radiation or surgery to remove the prostate) your father can live a productive life thereafter.

His doctors would have already suggested few test called Bone scan and an MRI of pelvis which confirms whether the disease is localized within the prostate gland or has moved out of the confines of the gland.
Further treatment would be based on these two facts that is a curative treatment if the disease is confined or a treatment to halt further spread of the cancer if it has already spread out of the boundaries of the gland.

At this point, we can't recommend any treatment unless we know the extent of disease, as the treatment would be different in each scenario.

If you do have results of bone scan and MRI, do share it here so that we can guide you appropriately.

Regards
