The cost of gum grafting surgery in Pakistan ranges between 15,000 - 20,000 PKR. However, this cost varies depending upon the severity of the gum recession, and the type of gum grafting procedure being performed by your dentist.

If your dentist finds the following oral health condition, he might prescribe gum grafting. Some of the diagnosis leading to gum grafting includes;

• Gum recession due to genetics, hard brushing, poor oral health, or smoking

• Receding gums due to continuous grinding or clenching of teeth 

• Hormonal changes, especially those occurring during pregnancy

• Periodontal diseases that cause inflammation in the gum tissue

• Gum injury caused by accident

What is the procedure for Gum Grafting?

Once the dentist recommends you a gum grafting, he will follow these surgical procedures for performing it:

• The dentist will begin by numbing the dental site under treatment with local anesthesia. This is done to reduce pain during the surgical procedure.

• The dentist will make an incision in your palate to graft tissue or use synthetic grafting instead.  

• The grafted gum tissues or the synthetic grafting will be placed over the exposed roots or the receded gums with stitches.

After your oral surgery, the dentist will give you instructions regarding post-surgical care. He may also schedule follow-up appointments to monitor your healing and reduce post-surgical issues.

What are the risks & complications associated with Gum Grafting?

The risks and complications that patients might experience after this surgery include;

• Graft shrinkage

• Gum graft failure

• Post-surgical bleeding

• Allergic reactions to the used anesthesia 

• Oral infection caused by the dental instruments

• Prolonged pain and discomfort at the operated site

• Gum sensitivity to temperature, touch, and certain foods

• Gum recession at the site from where the tissues have been extracted

• Prolonged healing due to underlying health conditions, poor oral hygiene, or smoking

• Altered appearance of the gum line, especially when the grafting is done in the front of the mouth

What to expect after Gum Grafting?

• For a few post-surgical hours or even one or two days, you may feel persistent numbness in the treated area.

• Sometimes patients also experience discomfort, swelling, or minor bleeding in the treated area.

• Per the recommendations of your dentist, you will have to avoid hard and sticky foods like nuts, raw carrots, honey, candies, or dates to avoid damage to the gum crafts.
