High Order C-section Complicated With Room

High Order C-section Complicated With Room

A higher-order cesarian section refers to the number of previous surgeries. A C-section higher than two is known as a high-order C-section. The cesarian section refers to the child's delivery through surgical incisions in the abdomen and uterus. The surgery is opted for in case of complications associated with the normal delivery or history of previous surgeries. High-order C-sec surgery has a longer healing time than the previous and has more associated risks.

What is the cost of high-order C-sec?

The cost of C-section surgery in Pakistan ranges between 150,000-400,000 PKR. This cost varies depending on the hospital you choose and the surgeon you consult.

What leads to high-order C-sec?

A C-section is chosen as a delivery procedure under the following conditions;

  • History of previous C-sections

  • Maternal preferences

  • Medical indications in the mother

  • Complicated pregnancy (Fetal distress/breech presentation)

  • Previous uterine surgeries

What is the procedure for a high-order C-section?

C-section is a major surgery that is carried out under anesthesia and involves the following steps;

  • Fetal heart rate and maternal health are evaluated to avoid complications during the procedure.

  • A catheter is connected, passing through the urethra to empty the bladder.

  • Depending on the patient's condition and preference, spinal, epidural, or general anesthesia is administered.

  • An incision is made in the abdomen and the uterus. The type of incision depends on the previous history of C-sections and many other factors. An incision can be low transverse or vertical.

  • The baby is delivered through the incision carefully.

  • Placenta is removed once the baby is delivered.

  • Depending on the case, an incision is closed using staples or sutures.

  • The patient is shifted to the recovery room, and pain control medications are administered intravenously.

What are the risks and complications associated with high-order C-sec?

High-order C-sections are associated with greater risks and complications than low-order surgeries. A few of these complications include;

  • Excessive bleeding due to previous incisions

  • Complications associated with the healing of the incision

  • Abnormalities related to placenta

  • Complications related to adhesion

  • Uncontrolled excessive bleeding.

What can you expect after high-order C-sec?

After the surgery, the patient is shifted to the recovery room and is looked for any signs or symptoms indicating infections. The Foley catheter is removed after 15-18 hours, and the patient is expected to walk a little after every 3-4 hours to prevent the formation of blood clots. The patient is recommended to eat fiber-rich small but frequent meals.
