Step 2: Once opened, the infected nerve is removed with the help of a special instrument known as a file. The root canal is cleaned with an antiseptic solution. Occasionally, you may see the discharge of pus oozing from the canal with a foul odor. This should be washed off.

Step 3: The root canal is further cleaned and reshaped to remove all debris.

Step 4: Dry the root canal and apply a temporary dressing.

Stage 2

Step 1: After a few days, the tooth's pulp chamber reopens. Check the canal for drainage. When the root canal is dry, RC filling is performed.

Step 2: If the root canal still seeps, do not perform RC filling. Clean and dry the root canal and provide a temporary dressing.

Step 3: RC filling is only performed at subsequent sittings where the root canal is dry and free of secretions. The number of sittings in these RCT procedures may vary from case to case depending on the condition of the infection.

Stage 3:

Step 1: When the RC filling is completed, the temporary filling is done and replaced by a permanent filling, such as a composite filling.

Step 2: In chronic cases, it is recommended to wait for 2-3 months before the cap/crown procedure. This period ensures complete healing of the tooth.
