What is the procedure for Septoplasty?

The procedure for septoplasty includes the following steps;

• A small incision is made inside one of the nostrils to access the septum.

•  The mucous membrane, which covers the septum, is carefully lifted away from the underlying cartilage and bone.

• The deviated portions of the cartilage and bone are either reshaped or removed to straighten the septum.

• The mucous membrane is then repositioned and sutured back into place.

• Sometimes, soft silicone splints or nasal packing may be placed inside the nostrils to stabilize the septum and facilitate healing.

• The incision inside the nostril is closed with absorbable sutures.

• The patient is monitored in a recovery room until the effects of anesthesia wear off.
