Kidney infection is a type of infection that begins in the urethra and moves to one or both the kidneys. Treatment of the kidney infections include the use of antibiotics and in severe condition, the patient might be admitted in the hospital.


Symptoms of Kidney Infection

When Bacteria get access to the urinary tract through the urethra they multiply there and travel towards the bladder and even reached the kidneys where they cause severe infection termed as kidney infection. This infection is recognized by following indications

  • Chills
  • Abdominal pain
  • Vomiting
  • Frequent and painful urination
  • Burning sensation during urination
  • Pus or blood in your urine
  • Cloudy urine having the bad smell

Causes of Kidney Infection

Bacteria present in the urethra can cause a kidney infection. Kidney infection can also be due to an infection in the blood. Rarely a kidney infection can develop after injury or surgery.

Risk of a kidney infection is greater in females and people who have urinary blockages. Compromised immunity due to any other disease or treatment can also raise the risk factor for kidney infection. Use of urinary catheter and conditions that can cause backflow of urine can also increase the chances of kidney infection.

Preventive Measures of Kidney Infection

You can prevent kidney infections by drinking plenty of fluid especially water. Resisting the urge to urinate should also be prevented to avoid kidney infections. Emptying bladder after sex and avoiding the use of harsh chemicals in the genital area is also helpful preventive method.
