Summary about Ventricular Septal Defect in English

Ventricular Septal defect is a birth defect of the heart in which the hole is present in the wall (septum) that separates the two lower chambers (ventricles) of the heart. This wall also is called the ventricular septum.
It is the most common congenital heart disease.

Treatment

The ventricular septal defect can be treated by a surgery. Some ventricular septal defects may be closed using an FDA approved closure device which is placed using a heart catheter

Symptoms of Ventricular Septal Defect

The Ventricular Septal defect has following symptoms;

• Shortness of breath.
• Fast breathing.
• Hard breathing.
• Paleness.
• Failure to gain weight.
• Fast heart rate.
• Sweating while feeding.
• Frequent respiratory infections.

Causes of Ventricular Septal Defect

Ventricular Septal defect is caused by;

• Congenital heart defect that is a birth defect
• Severe blunt trauma to the chest
• Genetic problems like Down syndrome

Preventive Measures of Ventricular Septal Defect

To ventricular septal defect you should;

• Avoid consuming alcohol during pregnancy
• Avoid taking medicines like anti-seizures that can cause birth defect in the baby
• Take folic acid in first trimester of pregnancy

Apart from these points, there is no known way to prevent the ventricular septal defects.
