You should get thorough examination by dermatologist of your scalp as well as skin because their are different skin diseases which can present with dandruff .

you need to apply any vegetable oil after taking shower and for shampoo, try to find a selenium sulphide based shampoo and keep it applied for at least 10 minutes.
Daily hair wash with selsun yellow shampoo, BetAmet lotion apply at night for 10 days avoid hot shower.

I don't agree with the comments of Dr Zakaria. First he shouldn't have responded to this patient's medical problem under my response.
Secondly, a specialists' job is to treat the root cause of the pathology not just the patient's immediate complaint. By visiting a Dermatologist he will have a chance to examine the scalp throughly and access the exact reason of his dandruff. Plain dandruff would be cured by addressing the scalp hygiene alone. But if the dandruff is due to a yeast like organism which affects the hair follicle leading to itching, flaky dandruff with hair loss require appropriate both oral and topical treatment regimen which is often prolonged. Applying the so called hair oils do more harm than good. Just maintaining scalp hygiene would definitely not be enough.
I would still vehemently advise the patient to have his scalp checked with a qualified and experienced Dermatologist.
