When addressing constipation with natural remedies, the focus is primarily on dietary and lifestyle modifications that promote regular bowel movements. Here are some effective natural remedies:
1. Dietary Fiber:
- Whole Grains: Incorporate wholegrain bread, cereals, rice, and pasta. Aim for at least 20 to 35 grams of fiber per day.
- Fruits and Vegetables: Increase intake to at least five portions per day (approximately 400 grams). Fruits like apples, pears, and berries are particularly beneficial.
- Legumes and Nuts: Include beans, lentils, and nuts in your diet to enhance fiber intake.
2. Hydration:
- Ensure adequate fluid intake, aiming for at least 35 ml/kg/day. This is approximately 2.5 liters for a 70 kg individual. Proper hydration helps soften stool and promotes bowel movements.
3. Prunes and Prune Juice:
- Prunes contain sorbitol and phenolic compounds, which have a natural laxative effect. Consuming prunes or prune juice can improve stool frequency and consistency.
4. Regular Physical Activity:
- Engage in regular exercise, such as walking or cycling, to stimulate intestinal activity and improve bowel regularity.
5. Routine and Habits:
- Establish a regular bathroom routine, particularly after meals, to take advantage of the natural increase in colonic motility postprandially.
- Avoid delaying the urge to defecate, as this can lead to harder stools and increased difficulty in bowel movements.
6. Probiotics:
- Consider incorporating probiotic-rich foods like yogurt, kefir, or fermented vegetables to support gut health and improve bowel function.
7. Gradual Fiber Increase:
- If your diet is low in fiber, increase fiber intake gradually to allow your gastrointestinal tract to adapt and minimize side effects like bloating and gas.
8. Avoid Overuse of Laxatives:
- While natural remedies are encouraged, it's important to avoid over-reliance on laxatives. If needed, bulk-forming laxatives like psyllium can be used, but they should be accompanied by adequate fluid intake.
These natural remedies can be effective for many individuals with mild to moderate constipation. However, if symptoms persist or worsen, it is important to consult a healthcare professional to rule out underlying conditions and to discuss further management options.

My CBC, LFT, and stool tests are normal, and the stool sample for that test did not have those fragments. A gastroenterologist prescribed me some medicines and said that if the symptoms do not improve, then a colonoscopy will be required. I took the medicines as prescribed, but they had limited effect.
