My question is from Gastroenterologists, endocrinologists and Hepatologists. It is with regards to my uncle who suffers from Liver Chirrosis causes by Chronic Hepatitis B and is preparing to get a liver transplant. My question is that doctors use immunosuppressive medicines after liver transplant to prevent the rejection of donor organ. I think that has to be taken for ever. It is to prevent the WBCs and immune system from rejecting the organ as a foreign body. But, as you know, weak immune system means more diseases including cancer. Isn't it dangerous? In our pursuit for Liver treatment, Won't we struggle with other diseases caused by a weak immune system? Will appreciate answer from all the experts.
Thanks

yes , need to take immunosuppressive life long,
but after tranplant dose and no of immunosuppressive medicnes are decreased to level that it only prevents body response to tranplanted liver and avoid rejction instaed of allowing other germs to demage body.
plus patient is on continuous monitoring to check immunosuppressive drug level nd keep it n limit to avoid aby opportunitic infection
