Talk to Urologist on Kidney Pain Test Inquiry

Hello. My mother has pain on the left side of her abdomen/flank, and sometimes the pain extends to her back. Last night the pain was quite severe, and she was also having difficulty passing urine. We would like to check if this could be related to her kidneys or urinary tract. Could you please advise which test or ultrasound would be most appropriate?
