The initial treatment in phimosis is a trial of specific topical creams, which if used appropriately for upto 3 months, result in complete resolution of symptoms in most cases, as judged by easy retraction and replacement of foreskin.
If there is no improvement, you have two options.
1. A full circumcision under anaesthetic, which will solve all your problems.
2. If you do not wish to have a full circumcision due to your religious beliefs, you can opt for a procedure called dorsal slit. In this procedure, we make a cut at the top of foreskin, which essentially makes it easier to retract and replace the foreskin and makes it easy to maintain the hygiene. Downside of this procedure is poor cosmetic appearance as it would like a fish mouth.
