Summary about Bladder Prolapse in English

Anterior prolapse, also called cystocele (SIS), occurs when the supporting tissue between the woman's bladder and vaginal wall weakens and stretches, causing the bladder in the vagina to swell. The anterior prolapse is also known as the prolapsed bladder. The contraction of the muscles that support your pelvic organs can cause an earlier prolapse. This tension occurs during vaginal delivery or chronic constipation, severe coughing or heavyweight. The previous prolapse also tends to cause problems after menopause when estrogen levels decrease. In mild to moderate anterior prolapse, non-surgical treatment is usually effective. In more severe cases, surgery may be required to keep the vagina and other pelvic organs in proper positions.

Symptoms of Bladder Prolapse

• frequent voiding or the urge to pass urine
• urinary incontinence (unwanted loss of urine)
• not feeling at ease right after voiding
• frequent urinary tract infections
• pain in the vagina, pelvis, lower belly, groin, or lower back
• feeling extra weight or pressure in the vaginal area
• abnormal or foul-smelling vaginal discharge 
• painful sex
• tissue sticking out of the vagina

Causes of Bladder Prolapse

• Women who have many pregnancies, deliver vaginally or have long or difficult childbirth are at higher risk.
• heavy lifting
• too much coughing (or other lung problems)
• constipation
• frequent straining to pass stool
• obesity
• menopause (when estrogen levels start to drop)
• prior pelvic surgery
• aging

Risk Factors of Bladder Prolapse

Women who have many pregnancies, deliver vaginally or have long or difficult childbirth are at higher risk.

Preventive Measures of Bladder Prolapse

• daily exercise to make pelvic muscles strong
• healthy diet to avoid constipation
• maintaining normal weight
• avoiding smoking
