I was diagnosed with avm on my left leg my ultrasound as there was swelling but no skin changes. Tender sometimes upon exertion. upon usg they said that its not below muscles. Can it be left untreated? and we can nust monitor it?
If an arteriovenous malformation (AVM) in the leg is left untreated, it may gradually get larger and cause increasing pain, swelling, skin discoloration, and visible enlarged veins. Over time, it can lead to skin ulcers, bleeding, recurrent infections, difficulty walking, and damage to the surrounding muscles and bones. In some cases, large AVMs can place extra strain on the heart because blood flows through them abnormally. Early evaluation and treatment can help prevent these complications and preserve the function of the leg.
