APTT Test Price in Pakistan: Rs 840 at Marham Lab
Also called
APTTaPTTPTTPartial Thromboplastin TimeActivated Partial Thromboplastin TimeAn APTT test costs Rs 840 at Marham Lab, down from Rs 1,200, and Rs 1,120 at Chughtai Lab. MedlinePlus explains it measures the number of seconds it takes your blood to clot, checking one specific group of clotting factors. It is usually read alongside a PT test, because PT measures other factors that APTT does not check.

What is the APTT test?
An APTT test measures how long your blood takes to clot. MedlinePlus explains that when you get a cut, many different proteins in your blood work together to form a clot and stop the bleeding. These are called coagulation or clotting factors, and your liver makes most of them. At Marham Lab an APTT test costs Rs 840, reduced from Rs 1,200.
APTT and PT Measure Different Factors
This is why your doctor usually orders both, and why one result alone rarely settles anything.
MedlinePlus explains that an APTT checks how many of a specific group of clotting factors you have and how well they are working. It then states that to get a more complete picture your provider may order other tests alongside it, the most common being a prothrombin time test, because a PT test measures other clotting factors that an APTT does not check. Your provider usually compares both results together.

If your doctor wrote a coagulation profile, the bundle at Rs 1,610 covers both. If they wrote only APTT, book the single test.
Why It Gets Ordered
MedlinePlus lists the main uses.
- Finding the cause of too much bruising or bleeding, including diagnosing a bleeding disorder such as haemophilia
- Monitoring people taking heparin, a medicine used to prevent and treat blood clots, to make sure the dose is safe and effective
- Checking the risk of bleeding problems, which MedlinePlus notes is often only done if you are at high risk
- Checking for clotting problems related to autoimmune diseases such as lupus and antiphospholipid syndrome
It also lists the situations that prompt the test: unexplained bleeding or bruising, a blood clot in a vein or artery, liver disease which affects the body's ability to form clots, a known bleeding or clotting disorder where the factors involved are unclear, scheduled surgery in someone with a history of excessive bleeding including nosebleeds and easy bruising, and signs of an autoimmune condition.
Recurrent Miscarriage Is on That List
Worth drawing out, because many women in Pakistan are investigated for this without the clotting question being asked.
MedlinePlus names a history of several miscarriages, which can be caused by clotting issues, among the reasons you may need an APTT. It also notes that if your provider suspects a clotting disorder linked to lupus, you may have a test called an LA-PTT, a type of PTT that looks for a protein linked to increased clotting and to having many miscarriages.
If you have had repeated pregnancy loss, this is a conversation to have with your obstetrician.
Symptoms That Suggest a Clotting Problem
MedlinePlus lists these.
- Bleeding for a long time after minor cuts
- Joint pain or swelling
- Signs of excessive clotting such as pain, swelling or warmth in your arms or legs
That last group overlaps with deep vein thrombosis. If a leg is painful, swollen and warm, see our [D-dimer page](/labs/tests/d-dimer-test-price) and contact a doctor the same day.
Reading Your Result
Results are given as a number of seconds, and MedlinePlus notes you may see PT results printed alongside.
Longer than normal may indicate haemophilia A or B, liver disease, a lack of vitamin K, inherited disorders affecting clotting factors such as von Willebrand disease and haemophilia, too much heparin, certain types of leukaemia, or autoimmune diseases such as lupus anticoagulant syndrome.
Faster than normal may indicate the early stage of disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), which MedlinePlus describes as a rare but serious condition that may develop with infection or organ damage. It explains that in the early stage there is too much clotting, and that later DIC uses up clotting factors and leads to bleeding problems. Faster clotting may also reflect high clotting factor levels during inflammation, pregnancy or cancer, or advanced ovarian, colon or pancreatic cancer.
Two Reasons Not to Over-Read the Number
MedlinePlus gives two honest caveats, and both matter.
First, autoimmune disease can make your APTT look slower than it really is. MedlinePlus explains that the chemicals in the test react with autoantibodies in your sample, causing it to clot more slowly in the tube than your blood does in your body. If an autoimmune cause is suspected, more tests follow.
Second, and more generally: even if your sample clotted faster or slower than usual, that does not necessarily mean you have a medical condition. MedlinePlus notes there can be a difference between how fast blood clots in a test setting and how fast it clots in your body, which is why unusual results often lead to repeat or additional testing rather than a diagnosis.
