CPK Test Price in Pakistan: Rs 665 at Marham Lab
Also called
CPKCKCreatine KinaseCreatine PhosphokinaseTotal CKA CPK test costs Rs 665 at Marham Lab, down from Rs 950. MedlinePlus explains creatine phosphokinase, also called CK, is an enzyme found mostly in skeletal muscle that leaks into the blood when muscle is damaged. It is used for muscle injuries and diseases, and for muscle pain on statins. MedlinePlus notes the test cannot show where the damage is or what is causing it.

What is the CPK test?
CPK stands for creatine phosphokinase. MedlinePlus explains that it is also called creatine kinase or CK, that it is an enzyme which helps make energy, and that most of the CK in your body is in your skeletal muscles, the ones you use to move, with some in your heart muscle and small amounts in your brain. At Marham Lab a CPK test costs Rs 665, reduced from Rs 950.
Dark Urine With Muscle Pain Needs Urgent Attention
This belongs first because it is the one presentation on this page that can become an emergency.
MedlinePlus lists dark coloured urine among the symptoms that prompt a CPK test, alongside muscle pain and cramps, muscle weakness, balance problems or falling a lot, numbness or tingling, and swollen legs or feet.
Dark urine with aching, weak muscles can indicate rhabdomyolysis, which MedlinePlus describes as a rapid breakdown of muscle tissue that releases proteins and electrolytes into the blood. It states this uncommon condition can damage the heart and lead to sudden kidney failure.
MedlinePlus lists its causes, and two matter a great deal in Pakistan: serious injuries, working in very hot places, overusing muscles, and certain medicines and medical conditions affecting the muscles.
If you have muscle pain and your urine has turned the colour of tea or cola, go to a hospital rather than booking a test and waiting. Outdoor and factory workers during a Lahore summer are exactly the group at risk.
If You Take a Statin, This Is Your Test
MedlinePlus names statins explicitly. It lists needing this test if you take certain medicines that may cause muscle damage, such as statins to lower blood cholesterol.
Statins are prescribed very widely here, often after a raised [lipid profile](/labs/tests/lipid-profile-test-price). Muscle aches on a statin are common and usually harmless, though CPK is how a doctor tells ordinary aching from genuine muscle injury. Never stop a statin on your own. Report the aching and let the test settle it.
CPK Tells You There Is Damage, Not Where
MedlinePlus is clear on this: a CK test result cannot show where the damage is or what is causing it. Your provider considers your symptoms and medical history to interpret it.
It also explains an important timing point. CK levels may not reach their highest until up to two days after certain injuries. So you may have more than one test to see whether levels are rising or falling, and levels that stay high or increase may mean muscle damage is continuing.
A single normal CPK taken a few hours after an injury is therefore not the end of the story.
The Follow Up Test That Localises It
If the source is not clear, MedlinePlus notes you may need a CK isoenzymes test, which measures three forms of CK.
| Form | What a high level most likely means |
|---|---|
| CK-MM | Damage to skeletal muscle, from disease, sudden injury, certain medicines, or recent intense exercise |
| CK-MB | Damage to heart muscle, often from heart attack or myocarditis. MedlinePlus notes other causes too: a blood clot in the lung, heart surgery, congestive heart failure, hypothyroidism and kidney failure |
| CK-BB | A stroke or brain injury, though conditions affecting smooth muscle, such as the muscles of the digestive system, can also raise it |
For Chest Pain, Troponin Is the Better Test
Worth knowing so nobody books the wrong thing in an emergency.
MedlinePlus states that in certain cases a CK test may help diagnose a heart attack though a troponin test is used more often, because troponin testing is better at finding damage to the heart muscle from a heart attack.
If the question is chest pain, see our [troponin page](/labs/tests/troponin-test-price), and treat chest pain as a reason to go to hospital rather than to a collection point.
MedlinePlus adds that after a stroke, a CK test may be done to find out how severe it was, and may help predict the chance of another stroke.
What Else It Is Used For
MedlinePlus lists the main uses: muscle injuries including those from accidents, serious burns or extreme exercise; and muscle diseases including muscular dystrophy, a group of inherited diseases that weaken muscles over time, rhabdomyolysis, and myositis, a group of rare diseases involving long term muscle inflammation, weakness and sometimes pain.
Marham also lists a Cardiac Enzymes panel at Rs 1,960, which bundles CPK with CK-MB, SGOT and LDH. Book the single CPK at Rs 665 if that is what your doctor wrote.
Reading Your Result
How to Prepare
MedlinePlus states you do not need any special preparations for a CK test, with one useful caveat: to help make sure your results are accurate, your provider may ask you to avoid intense exercise and drinking alcohol for a few days before your test.
That matters because exercise alone raises CPK. A gym session or a long day of physical work shortly before the sample can produce a high result with nothing wrong.
Tell your doctor about every medicine you take, especially statins, and about any recent injury, burn, fall or period of heavy physical work.
