About Minicol Drops

Minicol Drops uses include relief of infant colic, griping pain, and wind caused by swallowed air. It contains simethicone, which joins small gas bubbles in the stomach and gut into larger ones so the trapped wind can be brought up or passed more easily. Use it under medical supervision, especially in newborn babies or if the symptoms do not improve.

Minicol Drops Uses

Your doctor might give you Minicol Drops for:

  • Infant colic
  • Griping pain due to trapped wind
  • Wind due to swallowed air

Minicol Drops Dosage and Administration

Always follow your doctor's instructions exactly.

Adult Dosage:

  • Minicol Drops are meant for babies
  • The reference label gives no adult dose
  • Adults should use them only if a doctor advises

Children Dosage:

  • Babies from birth: 0.5ml by mouth before each feed
  • This gives 20mg of simethicone per dose
  • If colic still upsets the baby after 3 to 4 days, the dose can be increased to 1ml before each feed
  • The higher dose may help most before the evening feed

How to Take:

  • Shake the bottle well before each use.
  • Measure the dose with the dropper provided.
  • Give the dose by mouth just before each feed.
  • It may take a few days to work fully and can be continued for several weeks.
  • If a dose is missed, give the next dose before the next feed.

Minicol Drops Warnings

Don't use Minicol Drops if you:

  • Are allergic to simethicone or any ingredient
  • Have a baby who is allergic to simethicone or any ingredient

  • Have a baby who takes levothyroxine for a thyroid problem
  • Have a baby who takes any other medicine
  • Have a baby whose symptoms are getting worse
  • Have a baby whose colic does not improve on the higher dose

Also, remember:

  • Simethicone is not absorbed into the body
  • Swallowing a large amount by accident is unlikely to cause harm, but get medical advice if the baby looks unwell
  • Keep the bottle tightly closed after use
