Summary about Intestinal Obstruction in English

The taken food remains in constant motion for the purpose of digestion and waste removal. But sometimes this movement is blocked by a certain type of gathered material in the intestine. This condition is termed as intestinal obstruction. Bowel obstruction is a blockage that prevents food or fluids from entering the small intestine or large intestine. The causes of bowel obstruction may include bandages of the fibrous tissue (adhesions) in the abdomen, which form after surgery, an inflammation of the intestine (Crohn's disease), infected intestinal pouches (diverticulitis), hernias and colorectal cancer.  It may occur when food, fluids, gastric acids, and gas gathered in some area and form a stubborn mass in result small or large intestine is blocked. The blockage may be partial or total, and able to block passage of fluids and digested food. Without treatment, the clogged parts of the gut can die and cause serious problems. However, with immediate medical help, a bowel obstruction can often be successfully treated.

The following apparent symptoms may help the early diagnosis of this disorder

• abdominal pain, swelling, and cramps
• loss of appetite
• nausea
• vomiting
• inability to pass gas or stool
• constipation
• diarrhea

This is a serious life-threatening complication as intestine may rupture and dangerous intestinal contents and bacteria may leak into the abdominal cavity. It is treated by medication but surgery is needed for a permanent cure.
