Asking For Father, Male 55, Hyderabad
I need some advice regarding my father’s health condition. For the past month, he has been experiencing occasional shortness of breath (1-3 times a day, lasting only a few seconds) and mild upper abdominal pain. The pain is mostly after eating, but it can also occur at other times, including when he walks.
At first, I thought it might be a gastric issue, so I took him to a gastroenterologist. He asked for multiple tests, including pancreas tests, ultrasound, and ultimately a CT scan of the abdomen. The CT scan revealed a blockage in an artery in the abdomen (50%), and the doctor diagnosed him with abdominal angina.
To be sure, I also consulted a cardiologist. He did an ECG and an echocardiogram, and he said that my father's heart is in good condition.
Since I was not getting a clear answer quickly, I consulted another doctor as well. He also confirmed abdominal angina and prescribed blood thinners, cholesterol-lowering tablets, and medicine to widen blood vessels. Right now, my f
A disease in one of the arteries increases the risk of disease in other arteries as well. based on your father's history he probably doesn't need much attention other than meds for the abdomen artery but definitely needs evaluation for his heart(and hence shortness of breath). he needs a functional stress test e.g ETT or a CT angio to define the status of his heart arteries. please consult a cardiologist with this thing in mind and raise your concern for functional/anatomical testing of heart arteries.
Fasting Lipid profile, Echo and ETT get done to know the exact location of any cardiac involvement
Blood thinners and cholesterol lowering drugs are the treatment
If symptoms persist despite this
Intervention plus stenting might be considered
